The Reactive Intermediates Student Exchange (RISE) was established in 1995-96 by a group of five chemistry professors at McMaster (Leigh), Dalhousie University (Cozens), and the Universities of Victoria (Bohne), Ottawa (Scaiano), and Waterloo (Barra), in response to a decision by NSERC to cancel its highly-valued Undergraduate Student Research Award program.  Since that inaugural year, more than 30 McMaster Chemistry, Chemical Biology, and Biochemistry students have held national RISE Scholarships, each spending a summer working in a laboratory at one of the other ever-growing number of participating RISE institutions across Canada, and a total of 17 RISE Scholars from other participating universities have spent a summer at McMaster.  NSERC reinstituted the USRA program in 1999, but by then RISE had expanded to 12 member institutions and was fully established. Its members currently include chemists at 17 universities, the Xerox Research Centre of Canada, and the National Research Council of Canada.

Our 34 McMaster RISE Scholars are listed in chronological order below.
